576A Plant and Soil Sciences, (517) 355-0271 ext. 1267
My research focuses on understanding the principles of resilient cropping system design and biologically-based soil management. This includes investigating the multi-functional role of accessory crops such as cover crops in mediating nutrient efficiency, soil function and healthy crop roots. A particular area of interest is working with farmers to design more sustainable farming based on biological principles and integrated nutrient management. I have long-term interests in legume diversified cropping systems for sandy soils, from temperate Michigan to agroecosystems of smallholder farmers in Africa.
