Undergraduate Curriculum

All undergraduate students are officially enrolled in the Undergraduate University Division until they reach Junior standing (56 credits). However, a student may declare a major preference in Crop and Soil Sciences or Environmental Soil Science while a freshman or sophomore and work with an advisor from the department.

In addition to the University and College requirements below, students must complete the requirements for the Agronomic Sciences Option, Turfgrass Management Option, Advanced Study Option, or the Environmental Soil Science Major.

University Requirements

The University requires that all students have a minimum of 30 credits of MSU courses, of which, at least 27 credits must be taken on the East Lansing campus after reaching junior status, and at least 20 credits while enrolled in the degree major. No more than 10 of the last 30 credits may be transferred from another accredited four-year college or university. To graduate, students must complete a minimum of 120 total credits with a grade point average of at least 2.00, and satisfy the following requirements:

Writing - 4 credits
Integrative Studies in Arts and Humanities (IAH) - 8 credits
Integrative Studies in Social and Behavioral Sciences (ISS) - 8 credits
Integrative Studies in General Science (ISG) - 8 credits
Agronomic Sciences Option - CEM 141, 143, 161, and PLB 105, 106
Turfgrass Management Option - CEM 141, 143, 161, and PLB 105, 106
Advanced Study Option - CEM 151, 152, 161, and PLB 105
Environmental Soil Science Major - BS 111, CEM 141, 142, 161, 162

College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Requirements

Upon reaching Junior standing, students are admitted to the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources if they have completed 56 credits acceptable to the College with an academic record that meets the MAPS requirements (Minimum Academic Progress Scale). Students must satisfy the following requirements:

Mathematics
Crop and Soils option - MTH 116
Turfgrass Management option - MTH 116
Advanced Study option - MTH 124 and 126
Environmental Soil Science option - MTH 132 and 133
Economics 201 - 4 credits
A minimum of 26 credits in courses in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
